Jan and Annie van den Hoek’s alpacas (Alpaca Holland) are top of the pecking order in the first edition of the German alpaca pedigree book. In the Zuchtbuch (breeding book) published by the AZVD (German Aplaca Breeding Farm Association), the Peruvian Accoyo Amando is ranked at number 1 among the stallions, and the self-bred AH Peruvian Casanova at number 7. Van den Hoek fared even better with the mares. There are a total of 109 choice mares included in the Zuchtbuch, of which the Peruvian Accoyo Victoria scored the most points, followed by the Peruvian Evita. Jan and Annie van den Hoek of Alpaca Holland are extremely pleased that the years invested in improving the breeding results of their animals have finally paid off.
"It’s quite an achievement to start with 4 alpacas at the top end of the list in the breeding book of an international alpaca association like the AZVD which has 450 members and 6500 DNA registered alpacas".
Accoyo Amando has passed away in the meantime, but that does not take anything away from his classification in the Zuchtbuch, according to Van den Hoek. This alpaca has left behind a considerable number of offspring.
